Thanksgiving is a time when the world gets to see just how blessed
and how workable the Christian system is. The emphasis is not on giving or
buying, but on being thankful and expressing that appreciation to God and to
one another.
slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which
thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never
thinks he gets as much as he deserves.
Thanksgiving is a season that is very much in accord with the themes
and teachings of Jesus Christ.
John Clayton
“I pray for you, that all your misgivings will be melted to
thanksgivings. Remember that the shadow a thing casts often far exceeds the
size of the thing itself (especially if the light be low on the horizon) and
though some future fear may strut brave darkness as you approach, the thing
itself will be but a speck when seen from beyond. Oh that He would restore us
often with that 'aspect from beyond,' to see a thing as He sees it, to remember
that He dealeth with us as with sons.”
“One of the greatest evils is the foolishness of a good man. For the
giving man to withhold helping someone in order to first assure personal
fortification is not selfish, but to elude needless self-destruction; martyrdom
is only practical when the thought is to die, else a good man faces the
consequence of digging a hole from which he cannot escape, and truly helps no
one in the long run.”
“A little "thank you" that you will say to someone for a
"little favour" shown to you is a key to unlock the doors that hide
unseen "greater favours". Learn to say "thank you" and why
not?”
The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful
heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find,
in every hour, some heavenly blessings! ~Henry Ward Beecher
Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the
simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the
seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and
the deep, deep connection of all these things with God. ~Ray Stannard Baker (David Grayson)
“I would rather be able to appreciate things I cannot have than to
have things I am not able to appreciate.” —Elbert Hubbard
