The precise moment at which someone is considered an adult is unclear; some believe it happens when they turn 18 while others say it happens when they obtain a driver's license. To become an adult, you must, however, be mature and prepared to face the world. Being an adult entails developing a distinct identity, being able to support oneself and/or one's family financially, and being able to buy a home for oneself. Adulthood is a complex stage of life that comes with numerous challenges.
You need to develop your own identity in order to become an adult. Identity, according to Austrian psychologist Erik Erickson, is "a sense of self apart from one's family."
